WPP’s Grey buys big stake in German digital agency. Grey acquired a majority stake in k102, a digital media agency based in Dusseldorf. Grey owner WPP has acquired several digital agencies across the globe in recent years including large U.S. digital shop AKQA in June. Clients of k102 include Deichmann, Toshiba, and Transparo.
Digital agency AKQA expands U.S. offices. AKQA is expanding its U.S. presence, adding offices in Atlanta, GA and Portland, OR. AKQA’s network will now include five offices in North America and 10 offices globally with over 1,200 employees. The agency will continue to work with Portland-based Nike and Atlanta-based Delta.
Yahoo’s Spilman joins Millennial Media. Digital ad vet Mollie Spilman has joined mobile ad firm Millennial Media as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Spilman will lead the company’s global marketing, advertising, branding, and business development efforts. Spilman previously served as CMO at Yahoo.
Hello Design announces new partners. Scott Arenstein and Szu Ann Chen Smith have been made partners of the LA-based digital creative agency Hello Design. The new partners will oversee strategy, account management, and new business. Arenstein and Chen Smith will continue to serve as account director and executive producer at Hello Design, respectively.
Vindico taps top account execs from PointRoll and Telemetry. Video ad management platform Vindico announced the hiring of Kristy Haskett as account executive and Timothy Rodriguez as account services representative. Haskett previously worked as account executive at ad tech firm PointRoll. Rodriguez joins Vindico from ad serving and verification firm Telemetry, where he served as commercial manager, North America.
Deloitte Digital selected by Belk as mobile AOR. Deloitte Digital was selected by Southern department store chain Belk as the retailer’s tablet agency of record for its upcoming tablet effort. Deloitte Digital will help to build a distinctive tablet experience for Belk as part of a company-wide retail initiative.
Barnes & Noble and Microsoft partner to create Nook Media. Barnes & Noble and Microsoft finalized their partnership to create a new subsidiary of the two companies called Nook Media. Nook Media will include Barnes & Noble’s college business and Nook’s hardware, software, and content. Barnes & Noble also plans to expand the e-reader internationally.
