G.M. O’Connell, CEO of Modem Media.Poppe Tyson in Westport, CT, has been elected to the Direct Marketing Association’s Board of Directors.

“The DMA’s recent acquisition of the Association of Interactive Marketing (AIM) provides greater strength of services than ever before,” said O’Connell, who has been a DMA member since 1980. “I am looking forward to great things happening at the DMA in the years to come.”

The DMA was founded in 1917. Its members include direct marketers from every business segment as well as the nonprofit and electronic marketing sectors. Included are catalogers, Internet retailers and service providers, financial services providers, book and magazine publishers, book and music clubs, retail stores, industrial manufacturers and a host of other vertical segments including the service industries that support them.

In 1987, O’Connell co-founded Modem Media, which merged with Poppe Tyson in 1998 under the True North Communications umbrella.
