Finland's Online Population
Finland is clearly one of the world’s most Net-centric countries in the world. Of Finland’s 5 million people, 2.15 million are online, giving it one of the world’s highest Internet penetration rates, about 43 percent, according to the Finnish research firm Taloustutkimus, which conducts quarterly tracking polls. The latest was in January and February 2000. It has tracked usage since 1995, when there were 370,000 users.
Finland’s user population grew 24 percent from 1999 to 2000. The survey distinguishes between regular versus casual users and where users log on. In the period under review, weekly Internet usage jumped from 1.2 million to 1.6 million, a 38 percent increase. At the same time, daily usage went up 46 percent, from 602,000 to 876,000.
